EshaStik Adhesive

DESCRIPTION
EshaStik is a moisture curing polyurethane adhesive for bonding insulation materials such as polyurethane/polyisocyanurate foam, phenol resin foam, mineral wool and polystyrene foam to a variety of substrates including EshaBase and EshaGum vapour layers, Concrete, Timber, primed galvanised or coated sheet steel and/or mineralised bituminised roofing materials.

Bonding on talcum coated substrates is not recommendable.

EshaStik does not contain chlorinated hydrocarbons and organo metallic compounds.

APPLICATION
The substrate must be clean and dry, structurally sound and free from laitance, oils, dirt, moss, lichen and loose materials. If applied to an existing roofing membrane the surface must be quite smooth.

1. Remove the lid from the tin.

2. Puncture a minimum 6mm diameter hole in the bottom of the tin using a screwdriver or similar device.

3. Using an ‘S’ pattern apply continuous adhesive beads at 300mm centres in the field area of the roof in accordance with the consumption guidelines below. In perimeters and areas of high wind uplift reduce this to 150mm centres.

4. Immediately lay the thermal insulation board into the adhesive and press down to ensure contact.

5. Continue installing insulation boards across the roof in the same manner.

The insulation material must be laid and pressed into the adhesive beads before skin formation.

Do not apply more adhesive than can be covered in 5 minutes.

Carry out periodic checks to ensure the adhesive ‘ridges’ have been squeezed flat, do this by lifting the insulation material at the border side. This is particularly important with very uneven substrates.

Installation to be according to guidelines and specifications supplied by Radmat Building Products.

ProTherm Grey Thermal Sheet

DESCRIPTION

ProTherm Grey Thermal Sheet is a spun bonded polyethylene geotextile based upon Tyvek® by DuPont that is waterproof and vapour permeable.

ProTherm Grey Thermal Sheet replaces the usual separating layer laid between the insulation and ballast, prevented water from reaching the waterproofing layer and almost completely eliminating the rainwater cooling effect.

When installed with ProTherm Quantum inverted roof insulation in an inverted roof ProTherm Grey Thermal Sheet reduces the rainwater cooling, reducing the required insulation thickness by 2%.

Available in 2 roll sizes, 300m2 and 150m2, ProTherm Grey Thermal sheet is for use with Inverted Roof Waterproofing such as PermaQuik PQ6100, EshaFlex, EshaUniversal and ParaFlex.

APPLICATION

Lay ProTherm Quantum® PLUS+.

Unroll and loose lay over the insulation, unrolling across the slope/direction of fall at the bottom of the slope next to the parapet wall or upstand.

Overlap the next roll by 300 mm creating an unsealed overlap joint in the downward direction of the roof slope/fall.  When doing runs longer than the roll offset the 300mm wide end laps roll to roll in a brick bond fashion.

Temporary ballast as you go, checking the side and end laps remain at 300mm wide.

Cut separate strips for use at upstands and penetrations. Cut with scissors and take care not to damage the ProTherm Quantum® PLUS+ insulation. Ensure the strips are wide enough to provide a 300mm overlap onto the flat roof at the base and high enough to terminate at the level of the finishes. At the bottom of the slope/fall tuck beneath the first flat sheet installed.

At drainage outlets star cut the WFRL and turn down into the insulation board.

At square or rectangular penetrations cut strips of WRFL wide enough overlap 300mm beneath the flat WRFL and reach the level of the finishes.

At soil vent pipes or round penetrations, the 300mm base of the WFRL should be star cut and tucked beneath the flat WRFL. A separate piece of WFRL should then wrap the pipe to the height of the finished to aid continuity.

ProTherm SD Upstand Board

DESCRIPTION
ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is used to thermally insulate and protect upstand walls in inverted flat roof systems. Manufactured from a CO2 blown extruded polystyrene foam factory laminated to a 6mm thick weather resistant high impact facing board. Available in a range of thicknesses, see declared performance table for available thickness. 

The ProTherm XPS Insulation backing board has a Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 5, achieves a Green Guide to Specification A rating and an Ecopoint rating of 0.0482. For use with Inverted roofing waterproofing such as PermaQuik PQ6100, EshaFlex, EshaUniversal, ParaFlex and ReadySeal. 

ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is not intended to provide a final architectural/aesthetic finish as the cementitious facing may vary in colour from batch to batch. To achieve a consistent aesthetic finish the Cement Particle Board (CP Board) facing can be primed and decorated with an appropriate masonry paint or render finish.

Suitable Applications
ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is suitable for use as an upstand board in all applications on all buildings as defined by Approved Document B volumes 1 and 2, except on Relevant Building and Specified Attachments. 

Relevant Buildings & Specified Attachments
ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is suitable for use as an upstand board on roofs, roof terraces, enclosed balconies over heated space and insulated walkways in an inverted roof construction when it is installed: 

1. At a maximum height of 150mm above the roof finish/walking surface. 

2. At a thickness no greater than 60mm (insulation element only). 

3. To not cross a compartment wall line. 

4. Not against habitable space. 

If any of these installation requirements cannot be met ProTherm RockFace A2 must be used. 

ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is not suitable for use in inverted roof applications on Specified Attachments such as projecting open balconies, projecting enclosed balconies, recessed open balconies or recessed enclosed balconies. 

ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is not suitable for use in warm roof applications (where the waterproofing is installed above the insulation board). 

APPLICATION
Install ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board after completion of the PermaQuik PQ6100, EshaFlex, EshaUniversal, ParaFlex or ReadySeal inverted roofing system.

ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is bonded to the waterproofing using an Insta Stik bead it is also trapped at the base by the horizontal ProTherm insulation board. As long as the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board are well protected no additional attachment method is required unless the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is more than 3 times the height of the horizontal ProTherm insulation board. 

Where the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board is more than 3 times the height of the horizontal ProTherm insulation board, and less than 750mm in height, the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board must be trapped at the base by the horizontal ProTherm insulation board and have continuous retention across the top face of the board. 

Where the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board exceeds 750mm above the roof finishes and is trapped at the base by the horizontal ProTherm insulation board the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board must be either: 

  • Bonded with Insta Stik Roofing Adhesive applied in 19-25 mm beads at 300mm centres for the full height of the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board AND have a single DDS fixings (or equal approved) installed through the centre of the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board a minimum of 75mm from the top of the ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board.
  • Mechanically fixed directly to the upstand wall at 600mm centres using Speedline DDS fixings (or equal approved).
     
  • Where it is necessary to cut ProTherm SD Upstand Insulation Board to size use a TCT saw (suitable PPE must be used including a face mask to guard against dust).
